This was our beautiful corner for Project Octavia. This is where we tested and did primary look dev. The idea was that the Graphic Novel look would dominated, with outlines being the diver of most the fine detail in each frame. This meant we have to determine just how detailed we wanted each prop - allowing for the outlines to strongly define our profiles and silhouettes. Because we wanted a banded, high contrast, look to our lighting we also had to determine material responsiveness for each type of material. We had to determine what metals vs concrete vs wood would look like. This was very much a PBR sort of set up, but for a decidedly stylized look.
The main thrust of the aesthetic was that it needed to be as grounded in reality as the narrative and game setting - which was alternate reality. We wanted things to be recognizable, but different. This mean that our proportions were mostly realistic, but with the Graphic Novel look that set it apart from your typical stylized realism.
